It was all over the news a few months ago when the Sunset Curve Band took a bow as the winners of the 80s Alternative Band of the Year award.
But the band didn’t just earn the honor, it was the only band in history to do so.
And that’s a big deal for Sunset Curve, a small group of Californians who have become the only musical group to successfully make a living off the 90s alternative rock scene.
They started with the original Sunset Curve band, which was formed in the mid-1980s, and over the years the group evolved into a band that had more than 100 members and toured internationally.
Sunset Curve is also known for being the only group to feature two soloists, including former members of the Sunset Grove band who have gone on to form their own independent bands.
Sunset curve bands have gone through some ups and downs, but Sunset Curve has always been there, said Sunset Curve guitarist and vocalist Michael Zadrozny.
“It was definitely something that we had to do, and that’s what’s important, is to keep evolving and grow,” Zadrosny said.
The Sunset Curve and Sunset Grove bands have been featured in a few documentaries and feature films, and the band is currently working on a new film.
Zadrocky said the Sunset band has always enjoyed being on the road, even if they’ve always had a hard time selling tickets.
“I’m just grateful that I have this band that I can do this,” Zodroznik said.
“I’m not even a band guy, I’m just a person that does music.
That’s all that matters to me.”
Zadrozman is a student at California State University, San Marcos.
